Hello, SCL'ers:

Anyone know of or had attended a French school name Aurore (Aurora)
between 1970-1975?. It is possible it have a longer name but I don't
know it. I only knew Lao people pronounce it OR-LOR which is the Lao
pronunciation of the French word Aurore.

It is located in an area name Sam-Yag-Thong-Kang (or 3-ways road-rice-
field). That is what people there call it back then.

I like to know the full name of of it and what type of school this is.
Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

Lycee pah kouoy is alive and well in every country der. Laos doesn't
have monopoly on that school dok. So I've been told.

My only advice for that is to find yourself a nice loving wife and
enjoy your life. Why play Russian Roulette?

Laos

Casalao,

There are hundreds of private schools in Vte now
The one you were asking about is for all ordinary people, including
Lao officials like me

Now we have several elite private schools in Vte that monthly charge
is over than one hundred of US$. Most of them are teaching in English.

This school is called " Ecole Aurore". It was a good school I
thought...

It was located on Samsenethai Road, a 2 storeys building (the building
is still there but the owner ( probably a Vongsay)runs a department
store?) in front of Ecole Esperance at Kaognot Quarter. If you walk
from Mekong River/Wat Kaognot towards Thanon Khouvieng passing Phiavat
Secondary school (former Hong Hien Khun Phor) then cross the
Samsenethai Road the building is at the corner on your left.

I did not attend the school but a Vietnamese (from Saigon) friend of
mine used to and had joined me at Lycee VT in 5eme through an exam to
fill the vacancy. It is a primary school cum Lycee style school
(preparatory?) taught by Vietnamese teachers up to 5eme. Afterwards
most of students either pass an entrance exam to Lycee De Vientiane or
continue at other Lycee like Sinxay etc..The school is famous among
Vietnamese community is Simuong.

For those who like nightlife they should remember that Simuong was one
of the famous joint (higher class than Pakouay) for imported chicks
from Saigon at Kip 1.500 kip while Pakouay then cost only 300-500 Kip
same level as Pa Phakbong!

Hope this helps.

ok so this aurore school was a private school. there were so many
private schools way back then.

it is still probably the same case right now?

somebody showed me a school next to the thai ambassy and told me that
that is the place where most well-to-do people send their kids to
study.

Hello, All!

I want to thanks everyone for contributing to this effort. I don't
think the school mentioned so far is the school I am looking for. Mr
Say came pretty close to it.

It is far away from Simoung-Don Chan area.

If you take Khou Vieng Road (I think) from Talat Sow then several
miles there is a road on the left (I think it is Soke Pah Luang
Road).
Does anyone know the name of the road that have a electric power plant
and a either high school or university across the road from it? (I
thought it is call SOKE PAH LUANG ROAD).
If you are on this road you you are in the right path. Just a little
further there is a gravel road on the left. At that time there is a
huge ditch on one side and an apartment on the other side of this
corner. Across the road from this apartment there are many villa. This
area is where Americans and foreigners use to live.

Turn left on this gravel road and it will lead to the school I am
looking for. It is on the left side of the road. In front of the
school is all wooded area. It is a dead end road. If you go further
in, you will come to field of rice paddy.

I remember there were 2 buildings. The smaller one on the left held a
class for the younger students. Maybe 5-6 years old (may sort of like
kindergarten). That is where I was at. The bigger building must have
been from grade 1-5. It is a two-story building.

I am wondering if it is still in operation and what the name was.
Ecole Aurore seems about right. I was looking for it on Google map and
the building look like it is still there and so is the gravel road.
But there are so much development around it I don't recognize
anything. I expected that because it has been over 33 years ago.

Again, thank you to everyone.
