Ong-Bak???

Question for those who have seen this movie, particularly Mr. Joe...
Since this movie is in Lao, how do they, Siamese view it at the
theatre? Do they have a Thai subtitle for that? The movie like
"Bangfai Phaya Nake", it is in Lao, and it has Thai subtitle. The damn
character can't even speak Lao.

According to Kungfucinema.com, Ong_Bak will release in the US theatre
in Nov.

just wanna hear Lao on the big screen, you know what I mean?

I saw the movie in DVD at home, no problem on my part, they don't
exactly speak Lao but Lao Esarn and yes, they have Thai subtitle in
the theater, I believe. Never went to a theater to watch a Thai
movie, the only time I went to a theater is usually to watch Hollywood
flicks in soundtrack (English). Most Thai understand Esarn, may be a
few true Bangkokian might not but the majorities of Bangkok population
are from other part of the country so I don't think they have a
problem.

As for Bangfai Phaya Nark, the leading actor isn't Esarn by origin,
the Ong-Bark guy was from Udon Thani, I beleive. Good action flick,
recommend to everyone who like Jacky Chan type of movie.

"Ong-Bak" is not a Vietnamese name. It just sound like Vietnamese word "Ong
Bac" meaning grandmother and grandfather. The name "Ong-Bak" for this
movies loosely mean SCARRED BUDDHA I think. I am not sure if this was
referring to the scar on the face of the statue of Buddha or that it was
refereeing to the "bad guys" in the movie going around chopping the head off
Buddha statue.

definition:
ONG - refereeing to the Buddha statue.
BAK - depending what part of town or province in Laos you came from it will
have different or the same meaning. I think this word sometime use in
relation with the Lao word "FUNH" or it mean the something. for chopping
something. When you "FUNH" something it mean you divided or spitted it into
pieces. In my family we use the word "FUNH" when cutting something small
tree branches. If I was going to chop down a big tree I would use the word
"BAK".

Cool, the movie Ong Bak will hit the American theatre. I would love
to see it in the theatre. I wonder what they will call Ai Humlea in
English. Brother black ball or just black ball. I have the movie
and I showed it to some Ameicans friend. Man, they just love the
movie. I think it will be big hit in the US. Again, nice to see the

cut (mostly refer to a cut to make steps on a tree) or a mark on
a tree.

figthing each other.

About the movie "Bung Fai Phaya Nake", it's on VCD. A Thai lady gave
it to my mom, and she brought it home. If it wasn't in Lao, I wouldn't
have watched it.

I thought you're from Ubon, shouldn't they be selling it there?

like Black American kids in the US", i.e., the Bangkok kids would be
White kids while the Lao-Isan kids would be Black kids?

Just kidding. I know you mean well and are very proud those kids were
trying to speak Lao dialect in Bangkok. Besides, it promotes Lao

Ong-Bak is not a Laos or Vietnamese movie. It's Thai so don't expect to
hear anything in Laos. The movie uses southern Thai accents.

Southern Thai accent? I know it not a Lao movie, but why the hell the
whole village and the people in that town speak Lao, and the main
character speaks Lao. Nobody claims that is a Lao or Vietnamese movie.
We know what language they speak, we're Lao and we know our language. I
guess Siamese have a name such as Buc Hum Lae too then.

accents is nowhere near what they spoke in the movie.

Yes, I don't deny that it's a Thai movie and production but they are
speaking Thai Isarn or is it Lao Isarn? I guess you can't tell the
difference since you can't differentiate between Southern and
Northeastern dialect.

accent, Khmer Isarn Accent (Surin, Buriram, Sisaket), Ubonratchathani
accent is different, Central Isarn accent as (Roi-Et, Mahasarakham,
Khornkaen, Kalasin) East Isarn accent Nakhornphanom, Sakhonnakhorn,
Mukdahan and North Isarn as Udonthani, Nongkhai, Nongboualamphou and
special accent of Muang Loei is closed to Sayabury in Laos. This Ongbat
movie accent is Nongboualamphou or Udonthani at the North of Isarn...

eventhough it is a thai movie, but the real story behind it - is about
the people of isan and isan's culture. they speak isan dialect and it's
100% lao language.

the way they speak in the movie... he..he...he..., just take it from me
my lao folks -- that accent is widely used from udon/khonkaen accent to
mukdahan/ubon and surin, but Khonkaen accent is softer and it's 150%
lao language.

i know that the real bkk and southern thai people don't know jack about
the world "buck hum noi" or "buck hoo khee".
