That bring tears to my eyes and smiles to my heart... as a member of the Naked Ape species...
#1. Our local Milky Way Galaxy is so large it takes light, traveling at 186,000 miles per second, about 100,000 years to travel from the edge of one side of it, crossing at the middle, to the other edge.
The largest known galaxy in the visible cosmos has recently been identified as IC 1101, and it is about 2,000 times LARGER than our Milky Way. It takes light roughly 2 MILLION YEARS to cross from one side of this super giant galaxy to the other!
#2. It is estimated that, on the low end, we have 10 BILLION BILLION stars in the visible universe.... that's 10, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 stars!
At the high end, it could be as many as 200, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 stars.
That is more than all the individual grains of sand in all of the earth's beaches.
#4. ONE grain of sand, however, has MORE INDIVIDUAL ATOMS than all of the estimated stars of the visible universe!
#5. The human species.... since the time we've become a known and conscience species, are riding on a rock (called "the earth") that is revolving rather decently fast around our SUN and our sun, in turn, is ONE OF ROUGHLY 100,000,000,000 stars that are slowly revolving around the core of the MILKY WAY.... and since our species has split from our other cousins like the great apes.... we have traveled LESS THAN 1/10 of ONE PERCENT of the total distance around the Milky Way.
A complete revolution around the Milky Way will take our Sun --- about 2/3s of the way out from the core of the Milky Way --- roughly 250, 000, 000 years!
