"Free" means little, if Thailand thinks China is the model to emulate... and that she should move closer to being MORE like China.
Societies that operate of a "correct idea" schema will NEVER fully live up to its people's full potential, because FUNDAMENTAL IDEAS and VIEWS and KNOWLEDGE are really nothing more than just a better understanding of WHY or HOW past ideas on a certain thought, a certain way of thinking or doing things, a certain view on nature and/or human thoughts.... are not right or are off course... AND CORRECT IT...
When powerful people at the top of the ruling pyramid assert that only a set of "correct" ideas or approaches are allowed, it makes the CITIZENS do two things: look hopelessly for what that "correct" ideology or way is; and it makes them NOT HONEST with themselves.
Of course, if I knew my ass is on the line, thrown in prison for YEARS OR DECADES, for saying ONE or TWO "bad words" or "incorrect" things against POWERFUL PEOPLE.... the, of course, I won't say shit in public, either; but that doesn't mean privately I have much respect for the thugs, powerful thugs, who rule over me. And I KNOW it's not just going to be me; endless masses OF THE PEOPLE would likely have the same thought and view I do.
And, so, in SUCH A SOCIETY, such a "correct" society, NO ONE IS BEING REALLY HONEST, with themselves or with others.
Fortunately, lying to oneself and everyone else LONG ENOUGH and it becomes "second nature," it becomes "reality."
