Poor kids these days... they're told they have to pay higher fees because their professors need higher salaries....that they can't live on puny $150,000 to $200,000 a year salaries.... and if the profs don't get a few thousand more per month, that they gonna quit them and move to better paying institutions, like Harvard.

Yeah, right! Like Harvard has teaching positions for 50,000 odd faculty members from the largest and best university system in the world!

Anyway, that exquisitely beautiful and odd looking building you see here... I had spent many a night trying to cram for exams on the top floors... one of the most beautiful and iconic buildings in the world...

I guess UC Berkeley doesn't have a building as good as this one?, 'twis why the photographer chose this picture to go along with the article about professors and administrators riding on the backs of students?

It is all about supply and demand. If the employers are competing to get certain set of skill one employer offers 100k while another offers 105k. The salaey will keep going up until the demand is STABLE. lets say 10,000 student went the U for COMPUTER SCIENCE. That does NOT MEAN 100% of them can be EXPERT in ASSEMBKY MACHINE LEVEL LANGUAGE. the more HUMAN UNDERSTANDABLE the more chance students will be good enough BUT to make sense pf 0and 1 ONLY CODES is BEYOND most CS student including me. I CANtackle C, BASIC, PAL, and othe high level codes BUT ASSEMBLE is too low at the HARDWARE LAYER that I GAVEUP to MASTER that language.

Assembler is meant for computer or electrical engineer. To program in assembly you have to understand CPU architecture you are writing for. CS student will never learn about this. They are more into algorithm. I recruit young CS and very few know C/C++ much less about assembler.

CS people tends to make more money because software is what end-user is facing. Just like in fashion, the guy who designed clothes or make clothes make more money than the guy who grow or process cotton/fabric.

Making $200K is not much in some parts of the states. My place we pay people $50K more if they live/work in SF. What you get pay is not about what you know, but who you know. Tooting your own horn is the best way to get good pay. If that's not working then move on to another place.
