Maybe I am biased, but I don't think there is another society, or people, who play the guitar and who write songs like Americans.
The Brits come close, because they are our "younger brothers," but that's about it.
I know, David Gilmour, the Beatles, Dire Straights, and many other exceptionally talented and prolific individuals and bands were or are originally of English/British; but they didn't really "make it" onto the real stage of the world until they have "made it" in America and have, in reality, become "Americanized"... in terms of singing style, accent, audience, recording and sales, fame, etc.
Yes, narcissism coupling with great ignorance are bad things that go together; but if taken only moderately, I think it's okay!
Anyway, all things considered, my favorite band (American): THE CARS, who became really famous in the late 1970s, when we first arrive freshly off the boat, in San Diego...
This was not, is not, among the top 5 or so most popular or well known, which included bands like The Beatles, Eagles, etc., but I like THE CARS above all others because, for one, it became popular during my time in junior high and high schools, so their music lodged very deeply into my fabric of being.... like what Elvis, the Beatles, etc. did to the previous generations.
Secondly, I like THE CARS fast, easy-to-follow/play-with, rhythmic, contemplative, and yet uplifting musical style
In high school, when we were learning to play guitar, and wanting to form a band, this was the band I liked the most.
And, today, this is the band that has the most single songs I like the most. The short list above is some of my most treasured songs... songs that forever takes me back to the late 1970s to mid 1980s... the "wonder years" of my life.....
