It’s all it takes to begin with a few Hollywood low-budgeted
celebrities choosing Luang prabang for their first private exotic
nuptials, but Hollywood is not a good place to hide their secret. Even
as unintended publicity at first, yet the noise has certainly run fast
to Mick Jagger’s curious ears that himself he set up for Luang
prabang, because it’s a place not yet rotten by Lady Gaga, and the
rest of the American trash culture etc…The old rocker must be well
informed that no risk of any paparazzi will swarm up on 24/7 at his
hotel door.
But personally, I’m unimpressed by all these spoiled kids with
publicity or not, of course, that’s nothing the people or the city or
I can do about to prevent people from coming to town. What seems
ambivalent is that thing that can be good for business and certain
type of tourist publicity for Luang prabang is not always good for the
future of its sacred authenticity. There’s a risk factor in the long
run when there’s a procession of these spoiled kids lining up, even
worst when they show up in a temple to play instant Buddhist adept for
the camera. Not for long, Lady Gaga with her entire porn herd will
follow suit…and also do exactly like what Mick Jagger did, half naked
stand by the temple playing the Shangri-La redeemable Buddhist for
another camera etc…
So not for long, Luang prabang is once known as the most traditionally
untouched little religious and royal Lao town that will be put on the
busy Google map destination for spreading American trash culture etc…
I’m not even sure that any debate or any substantial regulations will
be possible to prevent it from happening, or keep the purity of its
historical relics intact for generations to come, when the genie is
out of the bottle, since the power and the influence of the money also
come to town at the same time!
I will rush back for sure just before that place gets rotten by Lady
Gaga!
